Even the most durable roofs have vulnerable areas that require preventative maintenance. In today’s post, Royal Roofing Construction, one of the most experienced roofers in the area, discusses these common problem areas and why it’s important to regularly inspect them:
Flashings
Flashings are sheets of metal or aluminum responsible for sealing the areas in your roof that water can easily leak into. These include the perimeter of the roof, the walls, and valleys. Since these areas are regularly exposed to precipitation, they are susceptible to deterioration without proper upkeep. By regularly maintaining these areas, we help bolster your roof’s elemental resistance.
Gutters
Your gutters are technically a separate system from the roof, but they play a critical role in protecting your roofing as well as your entire home. They are also one of the more problematic areas because it’s easy for leaves and twigs to get stuck in them, preventing them from properly redirecting water away from your home. Make sure to clean out your gutters regularly, or invest in a gutter protection system.
Shingles
Shingles absorb the brunt of weather-related damage and general wear and tear. Over time, the granules protecting the shingles deteriorate and can be stripped off by a strong storm. This causes the shingles to curl, crack, and even break completely. Let Royal Roofing Construction have a look at your roof if you feel the shingles aren’t performing their best anymore. We’ll recommend a better replacement through our GAF roofing systems.
